First Grade Curriculum
Reading, Language Arts and Spelling
The “Trophies” curriculum includes five basal reading books. I work individually with students to allow them to move ahead at a pace best suited for them. There is an accompanying language, spelling and phonics program which students work on daily.
This is a type of modern manuscript that prepares students to learn cursive handwriting.
The Harcourt Math curriculum includes number sense, addition, subtraction, graphing, measurement, place value, money, time, place value, fractions, algebra, geometry and numbers to 100.
The Houghton Mifflin curriculum consists of monthly topics about our neighbors, our world and the role each of us has in society.
We study several different topics about Earth Science, Life Science and Physical Science.
Students discuss how families work together at home, in school and in our church. The prayers we work on memorizing are the “Our Father”, “Hail Mary”, “Glory Be”, and the Stations of the Cross.
This is a program that gives strategies to students to work out conflicts with others.
Talking About Touching
This is a personal awareness program given to us by the Archdiocese of Seattle.
A variety of ways to express creativity are explored.
This video curriculum begins in January. It teaches basic words and conversation.
